This easy to make homemade chicken broth is a must have in our freezer, especially on days we just want to soak in with some hearty and comforting chicken soup!
The best thing about this is? You get to control what goes in it and it’s literally just tossing everything into the pot and letting it boil gently for the next hour and a half!
I made this as a condiment and you can watch the video of it right here on my Instagram page. Here’s the full recipe of it below. Enjoy!
Easy Homemade Chicken Broth
Ingredients
- 1.4 kg whole chicken rinsed and cleaned
- 1 head garlic cut in half, horizontally
- 2 medium carrots chunked
- 2 stalk celery chunked
- 2 medium onion quartered
- 2 bay leaves fresh or dried
- 1 1/2 tsp thyme leaves fresh or dried
- water just enough to cover all the ingredients
Instructions
- Place the chicken in a large pot. Add remaining ingredients, and then add enough water so the chicken is just covered.
- Cover with lid, bring the water to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Then adjust heat so it’s simmering GENTLY with the lid on. Simmer 1.5 hours until chicken is tender and easily comes off the bone.
- Scoop scum off surface once or twice during first 30 minutes.
- Transfer chicken to pan. Shred meat to be used for other meals and remove carrots and celery from the broth and discard.
- Transfer broth to a jar or container and refrigerate it or freeze it!
