Healthy Snack Prep: Asian Tuna Patties

Healthy Snack Prep: Asian Tuna Patties

Makes – 16 patties
Time needed – 20 minutes
Cost – ~$0.80 per patty

Here’s what you need:

  • 450g can tuna in springwater, drained
  • 400g chickpeas, drained
  • 1 red onion, sliced
  • 2cm ginger, minced
  • 3-4 cili padi, sliced
  • 2 tbsp liquid aminos or light soya sauce
  • 3-4 egg whites
  • 1 whole egg
  • Olive oil spray

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Combine tuna and chickpeas and mix well. Add in onions, ginger and cili padi, along with liquid aminos and mix well.
  2. Add in egg whites to the tuna mixture and mix well. Using your hands, form into a ball and flatten it on a plate lined with baking paper so it doesn’t stick.
  3. Heat a non-stick skillet and spray with an olive oil spray. Before cooking the patties, dip into an egg and then place on the pan.
  4. Carefully cook the patties, leaving some space in between so you can flip them carefully at about 2-3 minute per side.
  5. Remove from heat, serve hot or store when it’s completely cooled!

How much this costs:

*Keep in mind that this numbers are a rough guide. It depends on where you buy it and when. You can definitely save more money if you purchase in wet markets etc. At the end of the day it’s possible to eat healthy without breaking the bank. Also, ~ denotes the items that should already be in your pantry for a long time or it’s a very small amount.

  • 450g tuna in springwater, drained $7.35

  • 1 red onion, sliced $0.40
  • 2cm ginger, minced ~
  • 3-4 cili padi, sliced ~
  • 2 tbsp liquid aminos or light soya sauce $0.40
  • 3-4 egg whites $1.50
  • 1 whole egg $0.40
  • Olive oil spray ~

Total price = ~$12.25
Price per serve = ~ $0.80
